History of U.S. mentoring movement
The origins of the mentoring movement in the U.S. can be traced to 1904. Ernest Coulter, formerly a journalist, took a job at New York City’s first juvenile court, and was distressed to observe the harsh fate of children in the court system. Recounting one child’s story to a group of businessmen and professionals at a 1904 meeting of the Men’s Club of New York City’s Central Presbyterian Church, he said: "There is only one possible way to save that youngster: to have some earnest, true man volunteer to be his big brother, to look after him, help him to do right, make the little chap feel that there is at least one human being in this great city ... who cares whether he lives or dies." Coulter recruited 39 volunteers at that meeting, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program was born. Over the years, it grew to 500 chapters nationwide, and became the largest and best known mentoring program in the country.
High-Quality Mentoring can have tangible and important effects on the lives of young people. Our mentoring program will stricly work with male youth age 10 to 18. All students will use The Championship Performance 26 Step Life Course.
Motivation Institute Championship Performance Life Course
The Championship Performance 26 Step Life Course, teaches you to invest in your life and in your future. Each lesson you will learn new ways to do the things that you want to do. By the time you have completed this course; you will define purpose, understand principles, and possess skills that will benefit you through out your life. Each section in this course progressively moves from one step to the next. It supports developmental assets in areas of: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.
FOCUS: Define and examine your challenge.
GOAL: Identify what you want to do - and why.
ACTION: Determine specifically what you need to do - and when.
RESULTS: Conquer the course and make your dreams come true.
Champions come to the playing field, the track, the gym, and the mountain to realize their dreams and goals. Dreams start as ideas, and are later realized because the individual believed that their dream could come true.
After spending years of hard work, determination, courage, and dedication (and with the help of others i.e. coaches, friends, parents, family members etc.) the champion sharpens his or her focus, sets specific goals, defines and develops a plan of action, and concentrates all of their energy to go as far as they can - and then even further.
This kind of commitment empowers the champion with the strength to "go the distance" and achieve victory.
Using Champions For Life Mountain metaphor as a guide will help the individual, the family, the school, and the corporation to :1) Solve problems; 2) Strengthen relationships; and 3) Set and achieve goals together.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
